The WeBS count was undertaken on a high afternoon tide, this combined with the recent rain meant water levels were very high. Many species were largely absent, using local flooded fields to feed and roost, but in contrast Snipe appeared in exceptional numbers with at least 285 birds in the saltmarsh, the highest WeBS count since Jan 1993. Other counts included 1100 Dunlin, 254 Brent Geese, 243 Wigeon, 240 Knot, 151 Grey and 32 Ringed Plover, 81 Shelduck, 17 Bar and a Black-tailed Godwit, 16 Red-breasted Merganser, 15 Sanderling, 12 Curlew, three Greenshank and the Slavonian Grebe.
Elsewhere five Red-throated and two Great Northern Diver were off Langstone Rock with 18 Great-crested Grebe and an Eider offshore. The bushes remain quiet with five Cirl Bunting and just three Long-tailed Tit and a Goldcrest present.
