Wednesday 10th May

An early morning watch from the seawall saw six Great Northern Diver head south, with 14 Manx Shearwater, 12 Sandwich and a Common Tern, with three Eider, two adult male and a female, four Great Crested Grebe and two Common Scoter offshore.

In the estuary two Pale-bellied Brent Geese were new arrivals with wader numbers remaining steady, counts included 69 Dunlin, including a long-staying presumed arctica, 30 Whimbrel, 27 Sanderling, 13 Ringed and two Grey Plover, two Turnstone and the Knot. Also present the Dark-bellied Brent Goose, four Common and a Mediterranean Gull.

Wildlife News: The first two Bottle-nosed Dolphin of the year were breaching offshore and the Grey Seal swam across the bay towards Dawlish. Other firsts for the year included single Green-veined White and Cinnabar, with a possible Vagrant Emperor along the beach.

Two new additions to the Recording Area species audit, Bridge Spider Larinioides sclopetarius and Andricus curvator, a gall wasp on freshly emerged Pedunculate Oak leaves.
