Tuesday 6th June

A high tide visit showed a selection of small waders in the Bight, still feeding up before continuing north. Counts from the estuary and beach included 56 Sanderling, 44 Ringed Plover, 18 Dunlin, 10 Turnstone, five Grey Plover, five Bar-tailed Godwit, four Shelduck and the Dark-bellied Brent Goose. Swallow were still incoming with a few catching insects along the shoreline.

Wildlife News: Several of the splendidly named Astata boops were hunting the bare sand for shieldbugs alongside Red-banded Sand Wasp Ammophila sabulosa searching for caterpillars. Also plenty of Silvery Leafcutter on the wing, with a Dune Chafer on the Dune Ridge.
