Friday 16th May

The day's highlight was another random sighting with a flock of 11 Pochard east just offshore along the spit, only the second ever May record and the largest flock on site outside of extreme cold weather movements. Also offshore a pale phase Arctic Skua, four Red-throated Diver and 35+ Common Scoter. Wader counts continue to vary on every tide with peak counts for the day 310+ Oystercatcher, 152 Dunlin, 121 Sanderling, 31 Ringed Plover, nine Whimbrel, four Turnstone, two Grey Plover and a Bar-tailed Godwit. Elsewhere migrants were limited to a single Yellow Wagtail overhead and following the first Starling fledglings yesterday the first immature Linnet were out of the nest today.

Wildlife News: The first Brown Argus of the year were on the wing in Greenland Lake.
