Tuesday 20th May
An upturn in migration today with a summer plumaged Curlew Sandpiper the pick of the sightings. Also in the estuary 42 Sanderling, 23 Dunlin, 19 Turnstone, nine Ringed and four Grey Plover, eight Whimbrel, two Brent Geese and a Bar-tailed Godwit. Offshore two Roseate Tern were a welcome sight in what has been a poor spring for terns, feeding with them were 27 Sandwich and six Common Tern. Also offshore a first summer Little Gull, 80+ Kittiwake, 50+ Manx Shearwater and a Great Northern Diver. Migrants were notable by their absence but a flock of 14 Swallow, 11 House and a Sand Martin were forced down during a heavy shower and even landed briefly in the Bight.
