A frosty start with pockets of ice on Main Pond, where the Yellow-browed Warbler and a single Chiffchaff were busily hunting for food as it thawed; also in the bushes the first Jay of the year, a rare January record. Counts from the estuary were reduced due to the low high tide but 820 Dunlin, 158 Grey Plover and 45 Knot were seen from the hide along with 68 Brent Geese. Elsewhere five Red-throated Diver and 38 Great-crested Grebe were offshore and a single Raven overhead was another first for the year.
