A wet and windy start to 2025 saw a low total of 56 species reported for the fledgling year list. The early morning high tide saw most of the usual waders and wildfowl present with counts including 300+ Teal, 223 Wigeon, 165 Dark and one Pale-bellied Brent Geese, 124 Grey and nine Ringed Plover, 93 Bar-tailed Godwit, 84 Knot, 13 Sanderling, three Greenshank and two Red-breasted Merganser.
Elsewhere three Eider and two Great Northern Diver were offshore late morning, with five Shoveler on the ponds and most species keeping their heads down in the scrub.
Ringing News: A total of 15 colour-ringed Dunlin, included a regular wintering bird first ringed in Poland in autumn 2017. Also noted five Exe ringed Grey Plover and a Welsh ringed Knot.
