Friday 13th June

Mediterranean Gull continue to increase in numbers with at least 30 (19 2cy, nine ad & two 3cy) either roosting within the estuary or feeding offshore; a colour-ringed 2cy was from a UK colony, details awaited. 

Also offshore a breeding plumaged Great Northern Diver, seven Manx Shearwaterfive Sandwich Ternthree Common Scoter and a 2cy Common Gull.

Counts from The Bight at high tide included 284 Oystercatcher15 Curlew, four Bar-tailed Godwit, three Grey and Ringed Plover, two Whimbrel. a Dunlin and a Redshank

Other Wildlife: The highlight being Graptopeltus lynceus in the Buffer Zonea new species for the Recording Area, a scarce ground bug with only one other south Devon record, in Tospham in 2017.

The mobile Marbled White was again in the Back Meadow, with new wasps for the year included Glowing Cuckoo Wasp Hedychridium ardens and a Slender Digger Wasp Crossocerus elongatulus, the latter was seen entering its nest hole in a wall by the Station path and didn't emerge for several minutes.
